Everything you can add to a private tour
These are the add-ons we build into round-island trips, short stays and honeymoons — grouped the way we plan them. Nothing here is a fixed departure, so there is no package to fit into and no minimum group to join. Tell us which ones matter and we will shape the route around them.

Leopard and Elephant Jeep Safaris
Early-morning or late-afternoon game drives in a private jeep through Sri Lanka's national parks, looking for leopard, elephant and sloth bear.
Read more Read less
Yala has the highest leopard density, Udawalawe is the reliable choice for elephants and Wilpattu is the quietest of the three. Drives leave at first light or in the cooler hours before dusk, when animals are most active. Your chauffeur-guide drives you to the park gate and waits while you are inside, so the safari slots into the day without a separate transfer to arrange.

Ethical Turtle Hatchery Visits
A short stop at a west-coast conservation hatchery where rescued eggs are protected and hatchlings are released back to the sea.
Read more Read less
Five of the world's seven sea turtle species nest on Sri Lankan beaches. We only send guests to hatcheries that release hatchlings promptly rather than holding them in tanks for photographs — which is the single clearest difference between a conservation project and a roadside attraction. It is an easy, low-effort hour, and it works well with children.

Bird Watching
Guided early mornings in wetlands, rainforest and park buffer zones, with a specialist birding guide who knows the calls and the hides.
Read more Read less
Sri Lanka is a compact island with a long endemic list, and the good sites sit close to routes you are already driving — Sinharaja rainforest, the Bundala and Kumana wetlands, the tanks around Habarana. Northern winter brings the migrants. Tell us if you are a serious lister or just enjoy a quiet morning outdoors, and we will match the guide and the pace to that.

Traditional Village Walks
A slow walk through paddy fields and home gardens with someone who lives there, usually ending with tea or a simple home-cooked lunch.
Read more Read less
Depending on where you are, the walk might include a short bullock-cart ride, a canoe across a village tank, or a look at how rice, coconut and jaggery actually get made. It is deliberately unhurried and there is nothing to buy at the end of it. Most guests tell us afterwards that it was the part of the trip their teenagers talked about most.

Cooking Classes with Locals
Learn a full rice-and-curry spread in a family kitchen — grinding the spices, scraping the coconut, then sitting down to eat what you made.
Read more Read less
A Sri Lankan rice and curry is six or seven small dishes cooked at once, so the class is genuinely hands-on rather than a demonstration you watch. Many hosts start with a trip to their own garden or the nearest market to pick up what is good that morning. Vegetarian, vegan and no-chilli versions are all normal — just tell us in advance.

Sunday Village Fair Visits
The weekly pola — a travelling open-air fair where the surrounding villages come to buy, sell and catch up with each other.
Read more Read less
Each town has its own fair day, so this one depends entirely on where you are and when. Under the umbrellas you will find produce from the surrounding fields, fresh and dried fish, clay pots, cutlery, sarongs and short eats. It is the least staged thing on this list, and because it is a working fair rather than an attraction, it costs nothing to walk through.

Exploring Local Markets
City and town markets with a guide who can name everything on the table — Pettah in Colombo, the covered market in Kandy, the fish auction in Negombo.
Read more Read less
Markets are where a country stops performing for visitors, which is exactly why they are worth an hour. A guide makes the difference between walking past a spice stall and understanding it. To be clear about what this is not: these are public markets, not commission stops. We will never route you into a gem showroom or a spice garden sales pitch unless you specifically ask to see one.
- 1–2 hours
- No commission stops

Scenic
Kandy to Ella Scenic Train Ride
The hill-country line through tea estates, tunnels and the Nine Arch Bridge — widely called one of the most beautiful train journeys anywhere.
Read more Read less
The full Kandy–Ella run takes most of the day; the Nanu Oya or Haputale sections give you the best of the scenery in about half that. Because you are not on the train with your luggage, your chauffeur-guide drives ahead and meets you at the station you get off at. Reserved seating on this line is limited and released in advance, so tell us early and we will tell you honestly what we can get.

Scenic
Helicopter Sightseeing Tours
A charter flight over Sigiriya, the hill country or the south coast — the fastest way to see the island, and the only way to see it from above.
Read more Read less
A scenic loop is usually 20 to 45 minutes. The same charters can also be used as transfers — Colombo to the Cultural Triangle, or the airport to a south-coast hotel — which turns a long driving day back into a holiday day. Flights are weather-dependent and need to be confirmed well in advance, so this is one to raise at the planning stage rather than on the day.

Hiking Adam's Peak
A night climb up a stepped pilgrim path to reach the summit shrine at sunrise, alongside Sri Lankan pilgrims making the same walk.
Read more Read less
Sri Pada is sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike, and the pilgrimage season runs from December to May when the path is lit and busy. The climb starts around 2am and takes roughly three to four hours up several thousand steps — genuinely demanding, but non-technical. Your chauffeur-guide handles the late-night drive and is there with the vehicle when you come back down.

Trekking in the Knuckles Mountain Range
Guided walks through cloud forest, terraced paddy and mountain villages in a protected range north-east of Kandy.
Read more Read less
The Knuckles is a UNESCO-listed conservation area and far less walked than the hill-country trails around Ella. Routes range from a gentle two-hour loop to a full day over the ridges, and the weather changes quickly up there, so a local guide is not optional. Leeches are a fact of life in the wet months — we will tell you what to bring.

Surfing
Beginner lessons on the gentle beach breaks of the south coast, or a transfer out to the point breaks at Arugam Bay for experienced surfers.
Read more Read less
Sri Lanka has two surf seasons on opposite coasts, which means there is almost always somewhere working. Weligama and Hikkaduwa in the south are forgiving places to stand up for the first time, roughly November to April. Arugam Bay on the east coast is the serious one, roughly May to September. We will point your dates at the right coast rather than the other way round.

Scuba Diving
Reef and wreck dives off the west, south and east coasts, from a first try-dive in shallow water to certified boat dives.
Read more Read less
The waters around the island hold a remarkable number of shipwrecks as well as living reef. Pigeon Island off Trincomalee is the easy, shallow one and doubles as a snorkelling day; Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna cover the south in season. Bring your certification card if you have one, and leave a clear day between your last dive and your flight home — we will build the itinerary around that.

Cycling Through Ancient Ruins
Flat, shaded riding between the temples, palaces and reservoirs of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura — the way the ruins are best seen.
Read more Read less
Both ancient cities are spread over several kilometres of parkland, which is too far to walk comfortably and too slow to appreciate from inside a vehicle. The ground is level, the lanes are quiet and there is shade for most of it. Go early in the morning to stay ahead of the heat. Your chauffeur-guide shadows the route with cold water and takes the bikes back at the end.

Stilt Fishing Viewing
The south coast's best-known image: fishermen balanced on single poles planted in the shallows, best seen at first or last light.
Read more Read less
Stilt fishing grew up along the Koggala and Weligama stretch of coast and is now practised by relatively few families. Worth knowing before you go: some of the stilts you will see are posed for photographs and a fee will be asked for, while genuine fishing happens at dawn and dusk when the light is low. We will tell you which you are looking at and what a fair payment is, so nobody feels caught out.

Tea Plantation and Factory Tours
Walk the terraces with a picker, then follow the leaf through withering, rolling, oxidation and grading in a working hill-country factory.
Read more Read less
Most factories around Nuwara Eliya, Hatton and Ella still run on colonial-era machinery, and the whole process from picked leaf to graded tea takes about 24 hours. The tour ends with a tasting, where the difference between the altitudes is much more obvious than you would expect. Factories are usually closed on Sundays and poya days, which we will plan around.
- 1–2 hours
- Tasting included

Specialty
High Tea Experiences
Afternoon tea in a colonial-era hill station hotel or a restored planter's bungalow, with the estate's own tea and a view over the valley.
Read more Read less
This is the slow, comfortable counterpart to the factory tour: a fire lit in the afternoon at Nuwara Eliya altitude, proper china, and nothing to do for an hour. It pairs particularly well with a honeymoon or a milestone trip. Tables at the best-known bungalows are limited, so we reserve them when we lock your dates rather than on the day.
- About 1½ hours
- Reserved in advance

Specialty
Architectural Tours
The buildings of Geoffrey Bawa and Sri Lanka's tropical modernists, alongside Dutch colonial Galle and the ancient engineering of the Cultural Triangle.
Read more Read less
Bawa's work is scattered across the island — his Colombo house, the garden estate at Lunuganga, and several hotels you can actually stay in. Build that together with the ramparts and merchant houses of Galle Fort and the reservoirs and rock terraces of Sigiriya, and you have a thread that runs through the whole trip. Several of the Bawa properties need booked time slots.

Add experiences to any itinerary
You choose the experiences. We work out the logistics.
The hard part of a Sri Lankan trip is rarely deciding what you want to see. It is the driving times between them, the tickets that have to be secured in advance, and knowing which hotels are actually good. That is our job, not yours.

03
Adjust it, before and during
Dates can be moved free of charge, and deposits are fully refunded for cancellations made up to 21 days before arrival. Once you land, anything can still change — swap a temple for a pool day and your chauffeur-guide reshapes the morning.
Zero Commission-Shop Guarantee
Every stop on your day is one you chose
We pay our chauffeur-guides a premium, fair wage directly. Because of that, they will never detour your trip to a gem mine, batik factory or spice garden unless you explicitly ask to go. We are one of the few local agencies that completely detaches its revenue from driver kickbacks.
- Zero forced shopping stops — the time you paid for stays yours
- Market and craft visits only happen when you ask for them
- Clear, all-inclusive quotations with no hidden service charges or fuel fees
